Rescued: White-Cheeked Barbet Chicks
Recently, three fragile White-Cheeked Barbet chicks were found near Hoskote Road. With no sign of their nest or parents around, they were at risk of not surviving in the wild. Acting quickly, they were rescued and safely handed over to the Avian and Reptile Rehabilitation Centre (ARRC).
The White-Cheeked Barbet, often heard in Bangalore with its distinct kutroo-kutroo call, plays a vital role in seed dispersal and maintaining ecological balance. Sadly, chicks often face dangers due to falling nests, deforestation, or urban disturbance.
At ARRC, these little ones will now receive expert care—right from warmth and nutrition to medical support—until they are strong enough to return to their natural habitat.
This rescue is a gentle reminder that our cities are still home to diverse wildlife, and every small act of compassion can make a big difference in protecting it.
