Sustainable Water Conservation Project

Sustainable Water Conservation Project_1

India faces a severe water crisis, with hundreds of millions affected by water scarcity annually. Challenges include extreme water stress, contaminated surface water, and a lack of access to piped water, with climate change exacerbating these issues. Agriculture consumes about 90 percent of India’s freshwater resources. Inefficient irrigation techniques, such as flood irrigation, lead to significant water wastage.

The water scarcity crisis in India stems from a combination of natural and human-induced factors such as

  • Population explosion
  • Lack of proper Agricultural practices
  • Climate change and water pollution
  • Over-extraction of groundwater
  • Urbanisation   and gradual development
  •  Unequal water distribution, and
  • Lack of regulation and management of water sources

Addressing these issues requires a comprehensive approach involving reviewing water bodies, sustainable water management practices, improved infrastructure, and greater public awareness to ensure equitable access to water.

We aim to improve water abundance and water quality in association with Water Users’ committees, farming communities, and women’s self-help groups (SHGs) by:

  • Reviving traditional water bodies such as lakes, open wells, and tanks while promoting sustainable practices like rainwater harvesting and recharge of aquifers to improve the groundwater table.
  • Empowering communities through capacity-building programs and awareness campaigns that encourage water-efficient practices and responsible resource management.
  • Promoting collaborative governance and equitable resource sharing by networking with government, corporations, and other stakeholders to advocate for inclusive policies that support the revival of water bodies, integrated watershed development, and management, including conservation strategies.
  • Ultimately supporting complete ecological restoration and promoting the well-being of all living beings within the biodiversity.

Our Key Initiatives:

  • Water Wise Program: Educates and empowers communities to use water efficiently and adopt sustainable practices.
  • Sustainable Watershed Initiative: Supports watershed development in rural and urban areas to conserve and treat water for multiple uses.
  • Water Resource Stewardship: Promotes responsible management and protection of water through community-driven conservation efforts.
  • Conservation of Groundwater Ecosystem: Focuses on preserving water bodies and protecting the groundwater ecosystem.
  • Streamline Conservation Project: Engages communities in restoring and managing local water bodies with a sense of ownership.
  • Blue Planet Initiative: Raises awareness and provides practical and theoretical training on the importance of water and its conservation.
